"I have read all these articles with interest & admiration. They are good but variegated[?]-- . . . . not quite in the vein of happy portraiture you have struck in the Rhodes. Mostly they . . . are observations. What struck me about the Rhodes was that it was a complete exhaustive impression. . . . You play the artist & get at the bowels of the thing. For the most part with these other articles you don't do that. . . . I hope to goodness you'll let yourself out again soon."
