Wescott met Robeson in France in the 1920s and they traveled in the same circles in New York's Greenwich Village in the 1940s and `50s. Inscribed by Wescott again at a later date to his New Jersey neighbor Jane Engelhard, explaining his previous inscription to the Robesons.
