This photograph was formerly in the collection of Merle Armitage, an influential writer and champion of photography. The portrait is featured in Stravinsky (New York: Schirmer, Inc., 1936), which he edited. He commissed Weston to make a series of portraits and Carlos Dyer to design end-sheets. According to Armitage, "Stravinsky considered the book a near perfect marraige of content and design."
