WESTON, EDWARD (1886-1958)
Palm in the jungle. Silver print, 7 1/2x9 1/2 inches (19.1x24.1 cm.), with Weston's initials and date, in pencil, on mount recto. 1942

Additional Details

From the Collection of Phillip Periman.

Accompanied by two letters, an ALS and a TLS, both dated to 1942. The first is in Edward Weston's hand, thanking the recipient for a coffee maker, and noting that "After April, I will start printing for myself; then you can expect something in the mail." And then, "How do you like my stationary? Saving paper for defense by using up Charis['] first draft for our book. I start printing today! A great event."

The second letter is typed, from Charis to the same recipient, asking to clarify directions and referencing the photograph being offered here, a "palm in the jungle."
