WIESLAW WALKUSKI LA JUIVE. 1995.
27x39 inches.
Condition A.
Commissioned for the production of JF Halevy's opera of La Juive (The Jewess) at the Wielki Theatre in 2000, the poster by Wieslaw Walkuski combines classic Polish poster design and the personal style of the artist. Polish posters are celebrated for their decorative color patterns and a rhythmic flow of line. The vast layers of content found within Polish Posters are rarely revealed at cursory glance. Walkuski exemplifies this style in La Juive as he places his personal statement and interpretation of the work based on the essence of the subject matter while employing subtle metaphor, unusual juxtaposition of form and elements of abstraction. As the subject matter is elegantly jeweled with fabric, Walkuski combines power and grace in his designs to produce stunningly expressive works. In La Juive, he liberally employs expressive graphic symbols and bold colors with sultry lines to produce a clear compositional structure to perfectly coalesce theme and image. Wacyk np.
