Additional Details

In 1963, Wifredo Lam returned to Cuba after settling in Albisola, Italy. He was cloistered from the Cuban Revolution but valued the movement's drive for equality. He decided not to pursue a position as minister of culture, a post offered by the Castro government. His return to Havana on the occasion of the installation of his work in the Museo de Bellas Artes was widely celebrated by the local press, and Lam affirmed his dedication to social change through art. Lam would return to Cuba on few other occasions during the late 1960's.
