Sans titre.

Etching, 1945. 232x183 mm; 9 1/4x7 1/4 inches, full margins. Signed and numbered 69/124 in pencil, lower margin. Additionally dedicated with a small animal figure drawing by the artist in pen and red ink on the frame back. Published by Bordas, Paris. From Voyages à travers la peinture. A very good impression of this scarce, early etching.

The artist's first print. Lam (1902-1982) had already achieved acclaim in both his native Cuba, the United States and Europe for his semi-abstract paintings of animalistic figures, when he embarked on his prolific career as a printmaker in 1945. Over the course of the next three deacdes he produced a robust oeuvre of more than 100 works in both etching and lithography, securing his position as one of Cuba's top modern master printmakers. Tonneau-Ryckelnyck 4501.
