The present lot is a study for Barnet's 1988 color etching Twilight (see Szoke 187). In the final composition, the house atop the hill is removed and the seat is simplified, placing the figures in a more ambiguous natural setting. The subdued color palette in this study and final etching are a departure from the bright hues and gradients used in his screenprints from the 1970s that feature the same motifs seen here, family and nature.
