WILL CARQUEVILLE (1871-1946) LIPPINCOTT'S DECEMBER. 1894.
19x121/2 inches. Shober & Carqueville, Chicago.
Condition B+: paper loss and staining in upper left and top margins; vertical and horizontal folds; tears at edges. Paper.
Carqueville grew up in Chicago and studied lithography at his family's company (Shober & Carqueville). His entire poster output appears to consist of the work he did for Lippincott's (this was the first of Carqueville's posters for the magazine and he continued designing them for one year, producing 13 posters) and for the magazine International. He studied art in Paris in 1896, and upon his return settled in Chicago, where he continued to work as an illustrator. Only his poster in the Lippincott's series was printed at his company in Chicago; the rest were printed by the magazine in Phildelphia. Kiehl 43, DFP I 194, Reims 1210.
