The first (and best) of three film versions of Phillip Strong's novel of the same name. Some of the background scenes for the film were shot at an actual Iowa fair, where the producers purchased a prize-winning hog to be cast as Blue Boy. Rumor has it that they offered to slaughter the pig for Rogers after the film but he declined to eat his co-star!
