first edition of willeford''s scarcest work. inscribed and signed by willeford "I really hope you do like Poontang" and dated 30 September 1971. Limited edition of 500 copies. Laid in is an ALS to same person thanking them for their support for his novel Cockfighter and discussing the work ("the research, talking to the cockers, breeders, gamblers, etc., was a rewarding experience.") One page, 8vo, folded. Np, [1971].
Willeford penned an impressive body of poetry and novels but is perhaps best known for sparking Miami crime fiction through his runaway success Miami Blues in 1984 (with the wonderful original title "Kiss Your Ass Good-Bye") and its main character Hoke Mosely. Both inscribed copies and letters by Willeford are rare.
