WILLEM SANDBERG (1897-1984) PARYSCHE SCHILDERS.
39x27 1/2 inches.
Condition B+: tears and creases in margins; horizontal fold. Paper.
A graphic designer and typographer, Sandberg's largest body of work was produced for the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, where he was the director between 1945 and 1962. During his tenure there he designed more than 300 posters for the museum as well as the catalogues and the exhibitions themselves. Having been influenced by the new typography (as espoused by Henrik Werkmann and Piet Zwart), during the war he produced "Experimenta Typographica" which would become the basis of all his graphic design to follow. Archetypical of his approach this poster is strictly a typographical exercise.
