(Dutch, 1633-1707)
Two Sailing Ships.

Pencil on cream laid paper. 150x163 mm; 6x6 1/2 inches. Arms of Amsterdam watermark (Robinson no. 6).

According to letter from M. S. Robinson, London, July 18, 1991, this is a paper common for Van de Velde's drawings between 1675 and 1677. A set of 10 drawings at the Boymans Museum, Rotterdam, with the same watermark relate to the return of William of Orange and Princess Mary to Holland in 1677. The current work may fit in this group.
