This profound image of the harsh red "X," negating an antique interior as a way of advertising the new Werkbund exhibition on contemporary architecture, The Dwelling, How do you Live?, is well-known to the graphic design world. It is less well-known that there are three separate posters from this series, each identical in layout and typography but showing a different interior view. Also less known is that Baumeister "created this poster in conjunction with Mies van der Rohe and Werner Graeff" (Verfuhrungen p. 198). Modern Poster 103 (var), Plakat Kunst p. 118, Word & Image p. 66, Modernism 96, Mechanical Age fig. 3.15, Verfuhrungen 229 (var), MoMA 364.1950 (var).
