WILLIAM BAILLIE
Collection of approximately 110 prints.

Bound volume including etchings and mezzotints, circa 1770s-1780s. 540x360 mm; 21 1/4x14 1/4 inches (sheets), full margins. Mainly after paintings and drawings by Rembrandt, van Ostade, Dusart, Rubens and others. Full calf binding, worn, front cover detached.

Baillie (1723-1810) perhaps is best known among print collectors for his reworking, and subsequent dividing of, Rembrandt's Hundred Guilder Print, circa 1649 (Bartsch 74). Baillie acquired the plate around 1775 and, after reworking it and printing proofs of the entire subject, cut it down into 4 separate pieces.
