WILLIAM DE MAJO (1917-1993) FLY B.S.A.A. TO SOUTH AMERICA. 1948.
39 1/2x24 3/4 inches, 100 1/2x63 cm.
Condition A.
B.S.A.A. split from the British Overseas Aircraft Corporation (B.O.A.C.) to operate in the South Atlantic. Founded in 1946, it merged back with B.O.A.C. in 1949, after a series of unlucky incidents, in which two of their planes disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle. Born in Vienna, William de Majo opened his first studio in Belgrade, before emigrating to Britain where he worked as a broadcaster with the BBC Overseas Service. During World War II, he served as a pilot with the Royal Yugoslav Air Force. His understanding of business and production methods is reflected in his work, which displays an efficient clarity of vision. Here, de Majo translates a message in a graphically complex, yet deceptively simple manner. De Majo was highly influential in the establishment of ICOGRADA (International Council of Graphic Design Associations), and was its first president.
