WILLIAM EGGLESTON (1939- )
Untitled (In Case of Emergency). 1974.
Dye transfer print, the image measuring 13¼x19⅜ inches (33.6x49.2 cm.), the sheet 16x20 inches (40.6x50.8 cm.), with Eggleston's signature in pencil and the 14 Pictures portfolio stamp with the plate number "13" and edition notation "15" (of 15) in pencil on verso.

This image features saturated yellows and reds, colors Eggleston favored in the early 1970s, off set beautifully with blue and other neutral tones. The portfolio 14 Pictures was privately published, and was the first venture of this kind Eggleston made. The strong raking angle is mysterious and evocative, showcasing his mastery of both form and color. Eggleston had only just discovered the dye transfer print process in 1973, deployed here to stunning effect.
