WILLIAM H. ALPERT
Untitled.

Watercolor and gouache on Arches mounted on board, circa 1990. 750x560 mm; 29 1/2x22 inches.

Provenance: the artist's estate, New York; Wade Gallery, Washington, D.C., New Jersey.

"Bill" Alpert (1934-2015) was an abstract painter who also worked on wood constructions starting in the 1970s. After receiving his MFA from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1965, Alpert began to exhibit locally and in New York. His work was often experimental, as he tried different pigment formulations and drying methods. Alpert secluded himself from the commercial art world in the late 1980s, shunning the galleries, and instead taught painting at the Cooper-Union School of Art in New York.
