Twelve volumes of the seminal, Chicago based, fin-de-siècle humor, art and poster magazine, including the first 9 issues in order. Started in May 1895, and published twice a month, the Echo's mission statement was to "open the large, unexplored mine of foreign illustration and humor to Americans, in an artistic dress and at a reasonable price. It will present the cream of the fun that England, France and Germany laugh over. As it grows, it will offset the methods of the foreigners by showing what is modern in American black-and-white." (Echo, volume 1, number 1, May 1, 1895). In addition to the works of foreign artists many of these issues contain illustrations by John Sloan. Six of the colorful, poster-style magazine covers were designed by Will Bradley, and one each by Nankivell, Loury, Bird, Denslow, Landers and Harnsey.
