WILLIAM H. BRADLEY WHEN HEARTS ARE TRUMPS. 1894. 171/4x14 inches. Condition A-: expertly repaired tear through right margin, affecting image; unobtrusive horizontal fold. This image is for the third printing of the book, which first rolled off the presses in March 1894. The book itself had "a cover, title page, and borders by Bradley in a Rococo style" (Koch p. 34). "One of the masterpieces of Art Nouveau style in America" (Kiehl p. 17) "with its seductive curving lines, its limited colours, and its pleasing harmony of illustration and lettering . . . [is] probably the first poster design of real taste and beauty to be produced in America." (Keay p. 8).
