WILLIAM LAWSON (DATES UNKNOWN)

CHICAGO VIA MAINLINER / UNITED AIR LINES. Circa 1954.

30x20 1/4 inches, 76 1/4x51 1/2 cm.
Condition B+: replaced losses and overpainting in corners; repaired tears, creases, abrasions and restoration at edges; minor abrasions in image.

A DC-7 flies over Chicago's Water Tower, Palmolive Building and traffic along North Michigan Ave. The airbrush technique used to create the Art Deco-inspired imagery for this series is reminiscent of earlier work for United Air Lines by Arthur C. Radebaugh. The sweeping Lindbergh Beacon atop the Palmolive Building went into service in 1930 and helped guide airplanes safely to Midway Airport for over 50 years. Another in this rare series of posters for United Air Lines.
