Pen and ink and wash on paper. 185x240 mm; 7 1/4x9 1/2 inches.

Pitts was an English silver-chaser and sculptor who worked from designs by the artists Thomas Stothard (1755-1834, see lot 72) and John Flaxman (1755-1826) for various silver productions. In 1830 he executed the bas-reliefs in the bow-room and drawing-rooms at Buckingham Palace, London, and also made drawings to illustrate volumes of Virgil, Horace and Euripides.
