40x25 inches, 101 1/2x63 1/2 cm. Curwen Press, [London.]
Condition A / A-: minor restoration at edges.
"In 1951, the year of the Festival of Britain, London Transport showed its continued interest in encouraging stylistic variety by commissioning new pair posters ['when one design is made up of two posters'] from right across the artistic generations . . . Roberts, born in 1895, had become a very young member of the Vorticist group in 1914 and was later an art tutor at the Central school for over 30 years. His striking Festival poster for London's fairs reflects the Cubist influences he had absorbed in his work more than thirty years earlier" (London Transport, p. 195-96). The other sheet of this poster, which is not present in this lot, is primarily text. London Transport p. 197, LTM 1983/4/6391.
