Notorious Beat Generation author Burroughs (1914-1997) followed a drug addled road from the 1940s through the counterculture movement of the 1960s. Best known for his groundbreaking and highly controversial book, Naked Lunch, Burrough's experiences ranged from mild to wild to tragic, including the accidental shooting of his wife in 1951. Later in life he began painting and developed the technique of creating abstract compositions by shooting at canvases through paint cans.
