WILLIAM SHARP (1900 - 1961)

Blue Monday (34 Street, Chanin Building).
Aquatint, 1945-1946. 277x224 mm; 10⅞x8¾ inches, full margins. Signed, titled, and numbered 9/25 in pencil, lower margin.

William Sharp was an important and well known print maker of the times. This is among the artist's most well known and interesting artworks, with another edition in the National Gallery of Art's permanent collection. Parallel narratives of the "Blue Monday" title can be discerned with the drying clothes of Monday (wash day), the storm clouds, and the figure in the foreground repairing his car.
