Aside from this bronze edition, Zorach (1887-1966) also carved a version of Frog out of green marble. In his 1961 book Zorach Explains Sculpture, What it Means and How it is Made, Zorach recalls after he found the green stone, "Now I didn't know very much about a frog. I caught one and put it in a glass bowl. Then I made many drawings and studies of it so that when I came to carve the stone, I knew what a frog was really like, what forms were in its body, how these forms were related, how it moved and functioned . . . I use my imagination and my knowledge to create an idea or impression of the animal. I take whatever liberties seem right to produce a work of art. It is important to see the big simple design of the work from every angle."
