Allen was a collector of Zorach's (1887-1966) work, lending from his extensive collection to the Zorach retrospective at the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, 1959, along with fellow collectors Edith Halpert, of the Downtown Gallery, New York (who represented Zorach for several decades), and John C. Marin, Jr., the son of the artist John Marin (see lot 137).
