For this poster advertising a Hygiene Exposition, Willy Petzold revisited and reinterpreted a poster designed for the same exhibition 20 years earlier. In 1911, Franz von Stuck used a giant eye against a starry sky to encourage passers-by to attend the exhibition (see Swann Modernist Poster Auction #2113, lot 34). In 1931, Willy Petzold paid tribute to Von Stuck by re-imagining the eye in a more contemporary manner.
