Amsterdam, like many other European cities, had a yearly exhibition of the "Onafhankelijken," The Independents, painters who worked outside the existing schools and refused to be characterized as part of any prevailing trends or styles. For the 25th anniversary show, held at the Stedeljik Museum, Bosma, an accomplished painter, depicts a hand painting a face within the confines of a palette.
