Additional Details

This print relates to the dye on carved and tooled leather painting, titled All of Me, featured in the artist's 2023 show at Hauser & Wirth.

Rembert's autobiographical print is filled with undulating figures dressed in prison uniforms, swinging their axes under what are imaginably the worst possible living conditions. The black-and-white stripes of the uniforms blend together and become an abstract composition. The twisted bodies and ghost-like facial expressions are ones the artist would have seen daily for seven years during his wrongful prison sentence in the 1960s, where he worked on a chain-gang.
