The letter, to Dr. Rutherford Russell, sending the manuscript of his autobiography [not present] and attesting to his conversion to Christianity in the presence of witnesses. 3 pages, 8vo, written on a folded sheet; small hole in terminal leaf with minor loss to text, remains of wax seal to left of signature with minor staining on facing page. The first manuscript, in Persian, Hebrew, Arabic, and Armenian, 14 lines with English translation written in holograph below each phrase: "It is impossible to enjoy together / God & the World below-- / God said: let there be Light / & it was Light / In the Name of the Most / Merciful God! / Joseph Wolff." 1 page, 8vo, with integral blank. Wolff (1795-1862) was a missionary who, in 1812, converted from Judaism to Christianity; he was best-known for his published travel journals.
