WRIGHTS / FLUGVORFUHRUNGEN. 1909.
53 1/2x36 1/2 inches. Hollerbaum & Schmidt, Berlin.
Condition B+: repaired tears and restored losses at edges; wrinkles, creases and abrasions in image. Two sheets.
A 1909 announcment of Orville Wright's flying exhibition over Templehof field in Berlin. The bold poster features a prominent image of the Wright's Model A bi-plane (the plane is pictured flying from left to right). After their first successul heavier-than-air flight in Kitty Hawk in 1903 the Wright Brothers began to explore the possibility of mass producing airplanes. In 1905 they developed the Flyer 3 and then between 1907 and 1909 they developed the Model A. The simple text of the poster merely explains that the Wrights would be appearing at Templehof field and that the details were available in the Berliner Lokal-Anzieger newspaper. In fact it was only Orville Wright touring for this demonstration, and he stayed in Germany from August through September.
