Watt, Marie (b. 1967)
Door.

Pendleton, OR: Printed at Crow's Shadow Institute of the Arts in collaboration with Frank Janzen, 2005.

Watt's interdisciplinary inspiration springs from her Seneca Nation Turtle Clan and German-Scottish heritage. The spirit of the Iroquois Nation's matrilineal culture and community policy structure that requires consent of men and women (Haudenosaunee protofeminism) also inform her work. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Seattle Art Museum, Whitney, Crystal Bridges, & Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian and National Museum of American Art are all fortunate owners of Watt's work.
