Wilkins, George (d. 1618)
The Miseries of Inforst Marriage. Played by the Majesties Servants.

London: Printed by J[ohn] [N]orton for Richard Thrale, 1637.

Fourth edition, quarto, title slightly toned, short closed tear to title repaired on verso; a few catchwords cropped; bound in full green morocco by the Club Bindery in 1908; ex libris Beverly Chew with gilt-tooled morocco book ticket inside front board, 7 1/4 x 5 1/4 in.

Wilkins was inspired by the real-life crimes of Walter Calverley (c. 1570-1605), a Yorkshire man notorious for murdering two of his own sons. Court records seem to suggest that Wilkins ran a brothel near Turnmill Street in London. He is most famous for co-authoring Pericles with Shakespeare.
