Iraqi Airways was founded in 1945 as a department of the Iraqi State Railways, and began operations in 1946. Originally using five De Havilland Dragon Rapides, the BOAC helped the airline order three Vickers Vikings, delivered at the end of 1947. The Vikings were replaced in 1953 with the Viscount. The YI-ABP Vickers Viking is illustrated in this poster, flying over the airway's current routes.
