Envelope with anniversary stamp and cancellation, signed by six women in different colored inks; together with an 8 x 10 in. black-and-white press photo of Barbara Jordan (1936-1996) taken in 1974 as she delivered her opening remarks before the House Judiciary Committee's impeachment debate; both items matted. (2)

Jordan was an African American lawyer, professor and politician. She was also the first Black representative elected to the Texas Senate post-Reconstruction and the first Southern Black woman elected to the House of Representatives, serving in office from 1973 through 1979. The National Archives has identified Barbara Jordan as the first LGBTQ+ woman to serve in the U.S. Congress.
