Wylie, Elinor (1885-1928) Three First Editions Inscribed to Philip Moeller.
1) The Venetian Glass Nephew. New York: George H. Doran, 1925. First trade edition, octavo, with "B" on the copyright page, titles printed in blue and black; 7 5/8 x 5 1/4 in.
2) Jennifer Lorn: A Sedate Extravaganza. New York: Geroge H. Doran, 1923. First edition, first printing, octavo, issue B, with corrected cancel title page, inscribed, "This oldest and gayest of my children"; 7 5/8 x 5 1/4 in. BAL 23495.
3) The Orphan Angel. New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1926. First trade edition, octavo, with a quote from Shelley's Epipsychidion in Wylie's hand, "True Love in this differs from gold and clay, That to divide is not to take away"; 7 1/2 x 5 in.; each book signed and inscribed by Wylie to Moeller in ink on front fly leaves, each in publisher's cloth and original dust jacket and all three housed in separate matching custom chemises with morocco-back folding cases. In addition to her own original work in the form of poetry and long-form fiction, Wylie also acted as poetry editor for Vanity Fair magazine in the 1920s and a contributing editor at The New Republic. Bram Stoker dedicated a book to her and Tennessee Williams took one of her lines for the title of a play.
American theatrical director and producer Philip Moeller (1880-1958) was also a screenwriter and playwright. Working in New York in the 'teens through the '30s, he also founded the Theatre Guild.
