YELLOWSTONE-PARK. 1910.
36x49 inches. G. Schuh, Munich.
Condition A.
A Yellowstone National Park Transportation Company Coach which, prior to 1911, would have been the only means for visitors to gain access to the park through Cody. "Early tourists in Yellowstone National Park traveled in a sophisticated transportation system of horse-drawn coaches. In 1909 the tour companies had six stagecoaches, 165 observation coaches, 79 surreys, and over 100 wagons. An observation coach was lightweight compared to a stagecoach and required only four horses. It offered its 11 passengers unobstructed views of Yellowstone's wonders." (Points West Online, Fall issue 1997). Signed into existence in 1872 by President Ulysses S. Grant, Yellowstone was the world's first national park. Printed in Germany, this poster was clearly intended for American clientele, but few details exist as to its purpose or who published it. Voyage p. 25, Century 191.
