At an early age Nomikos studied under artisans who taught his the techniques of rendering figurative motifs in red and black applique, as seen on ancient Greek vases. He employed his skills as a young man, creating works of his own that he would sell through the tourist trade. Further studies equipped him with the skills of drafting, and easel and fresco painting. Yiannis Nomikos lives and creates in New York, and exhibits his artwork internationally.
