Kamekura was a natural choice to design the posters for the 1972 Winter Games in Sapporo. Not only was he the leading personality in the post-war world of Japanese graphic design and long-time president of JAGDA (the Japanese Graphic Designers Association), but he was also an excellent skier, who went skiing every winter in Europe, virtually until the year he died. In addition to these credits he had also designed the posters for the 1964 Olympics in Tokyo, at that time exposing the world to modern Japanese graphic design. On these images, similar in style to his 1964 posters he again uses photography combined with an outstanding lay-out. A breathtaking, dynamic image of a skier and an intriguing image of a skater, seen from above; in both instances the Olympic logo ( designed by Kazumasa Nagai) is located at the bottom of the poster, with text below it. Olympics p. 107.
