Provenance: laid-in is a typed letter from Hammer Galleries on their stationery stating that these volumes offered as part of the William Randolph Hearst Collection (Hammer Galleries, New York, March 1941; lot 750, Article 1757A). Printed for subscribers only. Paintings show a couple embracing, and a female nude, on first and second volumes, respectively. Each of the plates in this elaborate production appear in four different printings: on Japanese etching paper, papier de Chine, India paper, and on Dutch handmade paper. Limited to five copies indicated by asterisk rather than numbered. a very attractive presentation, with an esteemed provenance.
