Zurita, Jerónimo (1512-1580) & Andreas Schott (1552-1629)
Itinerarium Antonini Augusti et Burdigalense.

Cologne In officina Birckmannica sumptibus Arnoldi Mylii, 1600.

Second edition, octavo, engraved printer's mark to title; bound in full contemporary Dutch parchment, lacking ties, ex libris B.R. Perkins of Oxford, with his signature to title; 6 7/8 x 4 in.

This collection of voyages includes the Antonine Itinerary, a full account of all roads in the Roman Empire. The identity of the original compiler is unknown, its designation comes from the name of the 2nd century Roman emperor Antoninus Pius, a misattribution acquired over the centuries. The original work could not have been composed before the early 4th century.

The editors note the relatively recent passing of the great cartographer, Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598), first on the title page, and again after the text, where readers may peruse a number of memorial verses written in honor of his contributions to the science and art of mapmaking. Editor Andreas Schott was a correspondent of Ortelius's.
