(WHALING.) Pierce, Franklin. Four-language ship's passport issued to the whaler Lagoda. Partly-printed Document Signed by Pierce as President. One page, 16 3/4 x 21 1/2 inches; chipped, cleanly torn along some folds, subsequently repaired with cello tape which has left unsightly stains, the President's signature somewhat stained and cleanly torn through. Both a whaling paper and a presidential document. The ship Lagoda left New Bedford on 3 November 1853 to test its luck in the North Pacific. Benjamin B.
