Gorey was a prolific contributor to community theatres on Cape Cod, continuing a direction that began when he worked with the Poet's Theatre at Harvard. Considered America's Oldest Professional Summer Theatre, the opening performance of the Cape Playhouse was July 4, 1927; the play was The Guardsman, starring Basil Rathbone.
