In this splendid image for a literary journal, Rhead depicts a distinguished gentleman, reminiscent of Benjamin Franklin, browsing through a bookstore with his umbrella wedged between his knees. One of the older poster designers working at the time, Rhead had also gotten off to the earliest start, designing his first poster, for St. Nicholas magazine, in 1889. DFP-I 456, Margolin p. 86.
