Sale 2459 Lot 4
DESIGNER UNKNOWN NORDDEUTSCHER LLOYD BREMEN. Circa 1898.
38 3/4x28 inches, 98 1/2x71 cm. Fritz Schneller & Co., Nurnberg.
Condition B+: minor tears at edges; creases and abrasions in margins and image and along sharp horizontal fold; archival tape on verso along fold. Printed on thick paper.
One of two images involving a family and an impressive German ocean liner. Here, they are preparing to board the Kaiser Wilhelm der Grosse, which was launched on May 4, 1897. So large was the network of agents selling tickets for Norddeutscher Lloyd Bremen vessels, that various versions of this poster exist with such diverse locations as Alger and Luzern overprinted in the area at the bottom. From the Julius Paul Collection, with the Albertina stamp and pencil-written inventory number on verso.
