      MEDINA, PEDRO DE. Libro d[e] gra[n]dezas y cosas memorables de España. Title in red and black with large woodcut map of the Iberian peninsula; woodcut illustrations throughout, mostly generic city views. [11] (instead of [10]), 187 [i. e., 186] leaves, including 2 additional titles dated 1548 and 1568 and blank last preliminary leaf, and with duplicate gathering Z bound in. Folio, 284x188 mm, old limp vellum with spine title in ink, lacking ties; contents browned, some sidenotes cropped, scattered dark stains, few marginal clean tears, early underscoring and marginalia, hole in outer margin of A5 entering text, piece torn from outer margin of P7 not affecting text, and from outer margin of last leaf with text loss. Contemporary inscription ("Domingo López de Aguilar scrivano Hernando de Varela governador") on past page. Branded ownership mark of the Real Colegio de San Juan de Puebla (CCMF/BJML-9005) on top edges. Alcalá de Henares: Pedro de Robles and Juan de Villanueva for Luis Gutiérrez, 1566 [i. e., 1568]

      Third edition of a geographical and historical survey of the cities and towns in the various provinces of Spain and Portugal, originally published in 1548. The chapter on Palos de la Frontera on H6v-H7v deals entirely with Columbus's first voyage and discoveries, followed by a map of the New World on H8r, and a another of the Atlantic on H8v showing the northeast coast of Brazil.
