ACHILLE BUTTERI (DATES UNKNOWN) LE ROI DE LA SOUPLESSE. Circa 1910.
      61 1/2x45 inches, 156 1/4x114 1/4 cm.
Condition B+: repaired tears, minor restored losses, creases and restoration in margins and image and along vertical and horizontal folds. Framed.
Butteri's poster work was split fairly equally between Italy and France and primarily focused on automobile and bicycle companies. This powerful, ominous image is for Peters Union tires, and features a bicyclist, car and a truck all in motion on winding roads beneath a threatening sky. The snake, wrapped around the tire, while an unexpectedly aggressive allegory, visually reinforces the supple nature of the product which is mentioned in the title.
