Small 8vo, later stiff vellum, minor wear, stamped spine title; moderate dampstaining, minimal worming; early signature on third leaf. [Seville, Spain: Sebastian Trugillo], 1565

      first edition of the author's important study of American herbal remedies, better known as "Historia medicinal de las cosas que se traen de nuestras Indias Occidentales." An expanded edition followed in 1569, and then a third volume in 1574. An English edition followed in 1577, titled "Joyful News out of the New Found World." European Americana 565/45; Medina BHA 194; Palau 175485 ("Esta edicion solo ha salido que sepamos una vez en comercio"); Sabin 49936 (re the second edition, which he describes as the first). No other first editions traced at auction since 1913.
