      WOODWARD, GEORGE MOUTARD. The Caricature Magazine, or, Hudibrastic Mirror, Being a Most Capital Collection of Caricatures. Hand-colored etched pictorial title-page and 32 hand-colored etched plates after Woodward by Isaac Robert Cruikshank. 16 subscription parts. Oblong folio, 11x17 inches, original stitch sewn blue pictorial printed wrappers, each part numbered in manuscript ink, some sympathetic repairs; fresh and bright original hand-coloring; many sheets with a JWhatman watermark dated variously between 1804 and 1808, untrimmed deckle edges in many instances; several plates with small repairs. Housed in a blue cloth portfolio chemise with bookplate of William Hartman Woodin. London: Thomas Tegg, circa 1806 and after

      the first sixteen parts in original wrappers. A beautiful preservation of the earliest plates of Woodward's serial magazine of caricature. Each wrapper includes two hand-colored etchings satirizing various elements of nineteenth century British social and political themes. A scarce and extremely appealing survival.
